Against the Sunlight, We are Darkness
As in the ancient greek myth, Zeus strikes down Phaethon from the sky, but instead of dying he gets sent to modern day!
Continue Phaethon's joyride and fight off the military as the situation escalates into a global calamity!
Controls:
Sky mode: press space repeatedly to fly, hold down the mouse to begin and aim an attack, then release when fully charged.
Sea mode: the Sun Chariot follows the position of your cursor, press double space while near the surface of the water to take flight again
Tips:
- Don't stay in the sky or sea for too long or you will burn/drown!
- You only take damage when the body of the chariot is hit (though the horses can set off mines)
- Helicopter/drone explosives can't damage you if you're deep enough underwater

This game is super fun!

From a technical standpoint, this might be one of your best game jam games. As expected from your work it's decently difficult but in this case I feel like the difficulty comes from a perfectly balanced set of mechanics (not that the difficulty of something like Cheers or Alien Dog Deportation [which are harder imo], I rather like it, but in this game I think the mechanics make it technically very interesting).
I think the heat mechanic combined with being unable to charge a shot underwater is genuinely perfect. You are forced to restrict your movement and your ability to retaliate by entering the water, which has it's own threats, making the player have to think about their timing for both entering and exiting the water. Also the need to charge a shot restricts a certain someone from cheesing their way through encounters with spam. Idk this is kinda wordy so tldr, the mechanics are very well balanced to make an engagingly difficult game.
The paper art is so cool btw. Especially the animated horses. It's a really unique style that I haven't really seen before but definitely adds a lot. The rest is pretty simple but I don't think that's really a problem.
Finally, there's not much of a story but the general plot is the type of crazy stuff that I like from your games. Also the population counter is sooo good, especially how less and less people show up to stop you as the population gets wiped out; until you are just left to wander a dead world.
tldr: Good game :), cool mechanics and neat art, funny concept, etc. :) <3
Amazing game!
I think this says a lot about society. I couldn't stop thinking about how closely I relate. This is actually really fun, and I love how smooth everything feels! Although I don't totally understand what all the bars are for, I can understand the health one, and that's all I really need to know.
Oh nevermind the fire one builds up if you're not in the water and you lose health over time.
Okay wait you were not supposed to see this so early
This is a demo for a game jam due in like 5 hours
If you're wondering the other bars are heat (you overheat from the sun chariot if you're in the air for too long)
Air (you can't breathe in the water)
And power (if you hold down the mouse while flying you can charge up an attack then fire it by releasing.)
